Do you know wether you are influenced by media images? And the TV by the people?

Background

For the last years the media images we see have been increasing more and more and they still have potential to show us. Almost all the people in the developed countries has a TV, and these days near to 70% of the people has Internet connection where there are too a lot of media images where differents industries can show us.

There are some studies that say we watch the TV 30 hours per week without counting the time connected to the Internet so most of our spare time we are watching media images. The reason to this could be there a lot of different shows, channels we can choose now overcoat with the digital TV, Internet. Economically this is so great for the companies who can broadcast their advertisings to the kind of people they want. Us much people are watching the show, more money is paid to the producers by the companies advertising.

How the people is not going to be influenced with this amount of hours bombarded by media images and Overcoat with the quantity of money the media images can move how the producers are going to broadcast a show which the people don't like. If this media images can influence us so much, could this argue that who controls the images has the control of our feelings, thoughts, life?

Aims

This essay is going to discuss about this questions trying to argue logical explanations in an economical point of view and a social viewpoint.

you influenced by media images?

Results and Analysis

Findings

Out of 20 students interviewed. Once we got the results we can make two main groups refering where are they from: Group Europe( 9 people ) and Group Asia( 10 people). We have other group from Africa but it's just 1 person who answered from Africa and it's not fair to compare with the other two. So we could say that the 50% of the people are from Europe and the rest from Asia.

In the question about how far they live from the university there is an important difference. 4 out 9 europeans said they are living between 1 hour and 1 hour and a half and other 3 europeans are living in a range of 15 minutes and 30 minutes; instead 80% of the asians live between 5 and 45 min.

70 % of the europeans live in a flat by theirselfs, however asians live equaly in a flat by theirselfs, shared accommodation, halls of residence. Obviusly most of the europeans found where to sleep thanks to friends or a website/Newspaper, but asian students found it by the university, agents and friends too 30% each option.

Most of the europeans feel safe all the time in his area ( zone 2 and zone 1), instead the asians just 40% feel safe all the time, other 30 % most of the time, 20% not at all and 10% absolutely not.

A Good difference is the amount of money they pay because 40% of the europeans are paying 50-80 pounds per week and the 40% of the asians are paying more than 200 pounds sper week. Both groups are satisfied with their accommodation with more than 90% in each group and the main problems they find with more than 60% is taht it's too expensive and the location.

Analysis

These results show us at the first time that there is not a lot students from South America, Hardly none from Africa; however, there are from Asia and Europe in the same ratio ( counting the 20 people interviewed).

If we take the two main groups and looking the results we could make two different groups of answers, simialirities and differences.

The similiarities seem to be that they are both satisfied with their accommodation but they both think that is too expensive or the location is not as good are they want to be.

We could find the diferences in the other wuestion like what kind of accomodation they are living in, because none of the europeans lives in a hall of residence, instead there are 20% of the asians who live there.

The most important think is the amount of money they pay per week. The mayor group of europeans ( 40%) are paying less than 80 pounds and the other mayor group from Asia is paying more than 200 pounds per week. Thinking on it I could say that asian people who comes here are richer than the europeans or they are use to pay this much like in Tokyo or I don't really know the exact reason because the zones they use to live are zone 2 and 3 the asians, perhaps the europeans in zone 1 and 2.

We could make a conclussion of these research saying that the amount of people we interviewed is really small to think in any real conclussion and make some other questions to find the difference between quantity of money they pay per week.

British TV

I think that the TV here in London is much better than in Spain because there a lot of good shows like could be TOP GEAR, (on sunday at 20:00 in BBC 2 and evereyday at 16:00 in Dave channel) which I really love it and I think it´s really interesting ,because they make a deep research in cars, and so funny when they make some challenges.

Also on Thursday you can watch the reality Last Man standing that´s I think it's really good for the people because you can see a lot of tribus and their way of life, and then how the thinest man of the 6 concursants can win in a challenge to the strongest man.

If you want to see some sports like today the Champions League match between Liverpool-At.Madrid in ITV channel you are able to see it for free. For movies one option could be the FIVE channel. Also you can find funny shows like Buzzcocks ( I'm not sure if everyday), Batterie snot included...

So I like very much the british TV and it's a good way to improove my english

Selfstudy in the last weeks

Everyday I'm wathing the TV from 4 to 6-7 hours, so I'm improoving my listening a lot. I'm watching movies, realitys, news, sport news, F1, football, NBA, series and I buy everyday the newspaper ( Financial Times) because its good to learn business vocabulary which I need for my future work. To learn the vocabulary I don't know, I'm always carrying my translator that helps me so much everyday because my main problem in English its the vocabulary.

Also, I usually meet with my classmates to have fun or just to talk after the class or go shopping and this kind of things improove my speaking that it is another big problem I have.

I'm going to make the First Certificate on December and for that I have bought two textbooks that Steve told me about and everyday while I'm in the bus I make some exercises to be prepare for the exam.

Backround

How we know, London is the most cosmopolitan city of the world so there are a lot of people here that they aren't going to buy a house instead they will rent a room, a whole house, an studio, hostels, hall of residence, etc.

Overcome to the students they have a lot of problems to find an accomodation, if they don't have any accomodation fixed before coming to London like in a hall of residence, because is too expensive, too far, too dirty (London houses are not clean at all, at least comparing to Madrid, Paris, Munich,etc..). Maybe one of the reason of this it's what we are talking about, a lot of landlords are renting room by room to different people everymonths and they don't care about their own house forgetting to clean them, they just care about to earn money and that's all.

However, cleanliness is not the main problem, like I said before the students have other problems like distance, fees, flatmates, etc. So would be fine to find out what the students' problems are, and things the university could done to help them.

Aims

The object of our research is to find out the main problems for the students to find accommodation and how they are living in their current accommodation

Method

The method we'll use is to write a questionaire of 10 questions with some possible answers and the people interviewed will tick just one answer per question. Then we'll check the answers and make an analysis.

Oxford on sundays, Never GO!

Honestly, I won´t go again to Oxford on sunday to search for some entertainment, after being there the last sunday .

Why do I say that?

I thought the city of Oxford, one of the most popular cities in England and in the worl thank´s to the famous university, was going to be amazing for students like us. There are a lot of colleges and private halls filled with students but we didn´t see any of them, only tourists were on the streets. It was drizzting, so this wasn't a reason for not see anybody or any good entertainment to do there.

One of the first things we did, was to go to the castle of Oxford to see an exhibition wich was advertised as being a "super exhibition of The Earth from the air that has giants pictures" like they said in the webpage of Oxford. Obviusly, there is always an exaggeration in advertising but this really wasn´t how we had espected it to be. The pictures were big but not "giants" but i can't say the pictures weren't interesting, just the way they were shown to the people was lacking in energy. Finally, after seeing around seven pictures you could look just in front of you the shop of the exhibition, it was like the pictures were the streetside and the end of the street was the shop.

As you can see in the picture, the castle of Oxford is next to a modern house! So another aspect that we didn't liked. Maybe the exhibition was for middle-aged people and older that would like it but I don't think many students like us would.

Walking on the streets looking for something to do, we could see a lot of pubs and night clubs closed. It was logical because it was sunday. So I could say that maybe a lot of students will join them but not on sunday in the morning or afternoon. However, I think if you go not like a day-triper like us and you sleep in Oxford you could go to this pubs, night clubs and have a good time with the other students. This night club of the picture could be a good option and you can see that it's open all the week nights.

The best thing you can do as student in Oxford on sunday could be go shopping because there are lot of stores but obviously anybody goes to Oxford to go shopping, because could do it in any city of England.
